| Missionary Effie Taylor |
Evangelist Missionary Effie M. Taylor was born Effie M. Sykes to the late Mr. & Mrs.
John Allen Sykes in Black Fish., Arkansas. She is the thirteenth of fifteen children.
Missionary Taylor was a member of the Caroline Church of God in Christ under the
late Supt. E. L. Summers. She accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and received
the baptism of the Holy Ghost in a revival at the Bostick Temple C.O.G.I.C during the
spring convocation in St. Louis, Missouri on May 15, 1965.
Sister Effie Sykes was educated through the St. Louis Board of Education. She
graduated from Vashon High School, she was employed at the Settlement House in
St. Louis, Missouri. She then attended the Harris Teacher College. She worked at the
Veteran's Administration building as record clerk during the summer of 1964.
Sister Effie Sykes met Minister Robert Delano Taylor at his grandmother's, Mother
Gatlin, funeral in April 1966. Mother Gatlin was her Church Mother. On May 7, 1967,
Effie Sykes and Minister Robert Delano Taylor were united in holy matrimony in St.
Louis, Missouri. To this beautiful union was born three sons: Robert Delano Taylor,
Jr. ; Derlwyn Raynard Taylor; Eric Deon Taylor.
After moving to Detroit, she attended God's Holy Tabernacle Church of God in Christ
under the late Administrative Assistant Zelte Crawford. Missionary Taylor also
attended the Zion Congregational Church of God in Christ where the Lord began a
work in her. She served in the Women's Department,
Vacation Bible School, Young Women's Christian Council, Summer camp for the
Youth, and so many more areas.
After five years of marriage, the Lord blessed Missionary Taylor with a job at the
University of Detroit. She continued her education at the Wayne Community College
and the University of Detroit with a major in Criminal Justice. Missionary Taylor
worked at the University of Detroit in the School of Architecture soon to be fifteen
years - now known as the University of Detroit Mercy.
Missionary Taylor has served in many areas of God's Ministry - local, district and
jurisdictional. She was licensed as an Evangelist Missionary under the late Bishop C.
L. Anderson, Jr. , Prelate of the Great Lakes Jurisdiction of Michigan. After the
passing of Bishop Anderson, she worked faithfully with the late Bishop Walter E.
Bogan, Prelate of the Greater Lakes First Jurisdiction in the same areas.
In 1980, the Lord moved upon Elder Taylor and his family to unite with the Anderson
Memorial Church of God in Christ under the late Bishop C. L. Anderson, Jr. For
fifteen years, the Lord blessed the children and the Missionary Taylor to work with
Elder Taylor in his revivals. Each Thursday night,the family performed in music. The
children sang, played the organ, and Missionary Taylor played her trumpet.
Missionary Taylor has been a faithful and active member of the Glad Tidings
C.O.G.IC., and the Administrator of the Women's Department. This department was
designed to meet the needs of women in their practical living and spiritual walk with
God from the youngest to the eldest. Missionary Taylor was very instrumental in the
organization of Glad Tidings under the Rev.Dr. Robert Taylor, Sr., her Pastor and
loving husband of 40 years as of May 7, 2007.
The Lord has continue to bless the Taylor family as workers unto the Lord.
